Meet Rex, Official Barkeologist!

Rex is the official “barkeologist” for the Archaeology Learning Center. He earned his title and position by being the constant companion of Libby, the Center’s director. Libby wanted a dog to accompany her on her many visits to archaeological sites around the country. She found Rex at an adoption event held by a schnauzer rescue group, and he seemed a good fit. He was small yet strong, smart yet inquisitive, friendly yet loyal. Rex became the ideal ambassador for the Archaeological Learning Center!

What is Archeology?

the study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts and other physical remains.

Follow along with Rex on his adventures!

Rex was first introduced to the Archaeological Center as an older dog, eager to help out the visitors and archaeologists at an excavation site. As Libby’s companion, this was just the first of Rex’s many adventures. Whenever the archaeological team is contacted to investigate a historic site, Rex is right there with them. Maybe that pile of old bricks at the edge of a farmer’s field is actually the remains of an old schoolhouse. Is that a cave or is it an old mine shaft in the cliffs overlooking the river? Follow along with Rex as he joins the archaeologists in their search for answers to these and many more questions.
